CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A crash in Kalamazoo County late Sunday afternoon, allegedly caused by drunk driving, left a Battle Creek resident dead and two others injured.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to an area of Charleston Township just before 6:00 p.m.. They determined a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Battle Creek resident was traveling eastbound on E. Michigan Ave. and ran a stop sign at Mercury Dr.. Their vehicle struck a northbound vehicle and the impact caused it to leave the roadway and overturn.
The driver, a 32-year-old resident from Battle Creek, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The at-fault vehicle driver was arrested at the scene for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing death. Their name, as well as the name of the deceased victim, has not been released.
The Sheriff’s office is still investigating and would like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the accident scene by the Michigan State Police, Galesburg-Charleston Fire Department, Climax Township Fire Department, and Pride Care EMS.
