CENTREVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — St. Joseph County police believe speed to be a factor in a fatal crash that happened on Friday, July 15.
Deputies responded to the area of Lutz Road near Roy’s Place around 5:00 a.m. to find a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.
Investigators say the driver, 20-year-old Gerardo Menendez from the Three Rivers area was traveling southbound on Lutz road when he lost control, left the road and crashed into a tree.
Menendez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Besides speeding, authorities say the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
