PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A couple from Portage whose cars were stolen from their driveway over the weekend has one of them back after spotting it while driving around town.
WWMT spoke to Luke and Krista Schrader, who said their home surveillance cameras showed the thieves taking the cars during the overnight hours Saturday. The Schraders said the keys were hanging on a hook near an unlocked door attached to their garage.
On Sunday, the couple saw one of their cars, identified with a Portage Parks sticker on it, pulling into an apartment complex in Kalamazoo with two teenagers inside. They didn’t approach and called the police instead. The car was recovered and checked for prints, but no suspects have been identified. The other car, a jade-colored 2015 Nissan Pathfinder is still missing.
Police officials in Portage and Kalamazoo say car thefts have increased 50% so far this year.
