DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Gas prices in Michigan dropped by just a fraction this past week but could keep climbing during a busier than normal summer driving season.
Current average prices in the state are $3.18 per gallon, just two cents lower than a week ago and 92 cents higher than this time last year. Motorists are paying an average of $48 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $9 from when prices were their highest last January.
In its latest weekly report, new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed gas demand is at its highest since 1991 and only reflects one day of the Independence Day holiday weekend.
The other factor in continued high prices for gasoline is crude oil prices. AAA says if the price of crude oil remains above $70 per barrel, drivers can expect gas prices to continue to rise.
