KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Fire Marshall’s office reports that fireworks complaints were down by over 50% from last year’s 4th of July holiday period.
The office received 217 complaints this year, as compared to almost 600 last year.
Last year’s totals most likely were due to people staying home due to COVID-19 restrictions, while this year’s numbers were affected by the lack of restrictions and an increase in travel.
The city of Kalamazoo’s ordinance regarding fireworks stated that none were allowed after 11:45 am on Sunday, July 4th.
