HICKORY CORNERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Gilmore Car Museum will be hosting an all-German car show this Saturday, July 10.
The event, known as “DeutscheMarques,” was shelved last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is back on schedule now.
The annual event will host German makes across many years from BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and more. More than 500 are expected to be on display.
Officials behind the event spoke with WKZO Tuesday morning.
“We’re beyond excited,” event founder Pete Hamlett said. “We’re hoping for record crowds again, we’ve got more sponsors than we’ve ever had before, they’ve all jumped on board. We’ve got some extra featured cars that are going to be showing up, it will be quite a surprise as you walk out the main building and come through the gates. It’s gonna be a fun show.”
Michael Betz, who handles communication for the event, also spoke with WKZO Tuesday.
“As always, it will be hundreds of German cars in the five primary German car marts, but we also have a sixth category called ‘other,’ because you just never know,” Betz said. “We’ve had these Russian-built Trabants, but they were made in East Germany, so that’s a German car.”
Betz adds that the featured car this year will be a Volkswagen Type 2, more commonly known as “The Bus.” The featured car was chosen from a number of entries, and it was decided that a 1967 21-Window Deluxe Micro Bus was the winner.
The vehicle entry is from Marco Island, Florida.
“This thing is just crazy, and it’s a beautiful restoration,” Betz said.
The event takes place this Saturday, July 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
