DETROIT, MI — General Motors is reporting a 40-percent increase in second quarter sales compared to one year ago. The large jump was not unexpected as sales suffered greatly in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
GM officials said Thursday demand remains strong for all products, but especially pickup trucks and SUV’s. Chevrolet Silverado sales jumped 31 percent for the light-duty model while the heavy-duty truck saw a 42-percent sales increase. All four of GM’s division’s saw sales games compared to last year.
Car production at GM’s two Lansing plants has been interrupted occasionally the past two months due to a computer chip shortage.
