DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — With more rain in the forecast this week, Michigan officials are waiting to learn whether federal help is on the way after historic flooding in Detroit overwhelmed storm drains.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has asked President Biden for a federal disaster declaration and if it’s granted federal funds will be used to offset losses for the city and Wayne County. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan warned yesterday that it could be weeks before the city and county see any federal dollars if Biden declares a federal disaster.
Meanwhile, for people who had to abandon their vehicles on flooded highways in the Detroit area over the weekend, it’s proving to be very expensive to get them back. Several towing companies are charging people 500-dollars or more to get their cars and trucks removed from the flooded freeway. Drivers are angry and frustrated with that cost, saying it’s beyond excessive.
