KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Following the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy last week in Kalamazoo, several children were removed from the home where the shooting took place. Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting says that they are currently reviewing information to determine whether or not charges will be filed.
There are mixed stories as to what happened on Thursday, June 24th. Some reported the boy’s death as an “accidental shooting” and others are claiming there is a “cover-up” about what happened that afternoon.
Police were called to the home near the intersection of Lake and James Streets at around 1:30. A boy who had been shot was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
On Friday, a judge determined that the home posed a risk for other children living there and ordered them to be removed. Altogether, seven children were taken away from the custody of their mother. A pre-trial date has been set for August 5th.
