BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A vigil was held in Battle Creek last night to mark one year since Amber Griffin disappeared and was likely murdered. Her body has never been found despite several search efforts.
Amber’s mother, Carman Griffin spoke to WOOD-TV and says her daughter, being a mother of two, makes the disappearance especially hard because of the lack of closure.
“It’s horrible. It’s really tough because I can’t take them to a burial site or anywhere. I don’t know where (Amber) is.”
She hopes Amber’s story can help inspire people who know someone in an abusive relationship to help them get out of a dangerous situation before it gets worse. An event is being planned later this summer in Amber Griffin’s honor to raise awareness about domestic violence.
“If somebody’s in a domestic relationship and being abused, try to get them help before it’s too late.”
Her boyfriend Derek Horton was charged for her murder earlier this year, but has not disclosed any information to authorities about where Amber’s body might be located.
On June 23rd, 2020, Amber attended a Bedford Township party that went late into the night. The 27-year-old was with Horton, who investigators believe murdered her sometime in the early morning hours. The two had a history of violence in their relationship.
