KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Air travel is up sharply at both the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport in Kalamazoo and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids compared to 2020.
In Kalamazoo, airport director Craig Williams says the fights are much fuller.
“Things are really looking robust compared to a year ago. Not as strong as where we were as in 2019, but it’s certainly positive signs as were coming out of the pandemic.”
Susan Hernandez was flying to California from Kalamazoo Tuesday, her second flight since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The first time that I flew out it was like a ghost town. There was hardly anyone at the airport. But now I am seeing a lot more traffic.”
For May, numbers were up 788% for passengers on flights out of Kalamazoo compared to 2020. In Grand Rapids, those numbers were up 494% for May.
