LANSING, MI — There is good news for Lansing area autoworkers. General Motors is resuming production at its Grand River Assembly Plant just south of downtown Lansing today. That’s a week earlier than expected.
The shutdown at the Lansing GM plant on May 10 was originally due to a shortage of semi conductor chips needed for new car technology. Auto plants across the country have been impacted by the parts crunch, industry experts say. Many car dealers across mid-Michigan have been hit hard by inventory shortages.
GM officials say production of the sporty Chevrolet Camaro resumes in Lansing this week. However, new Cadillac CT4 and CT5 vehicles won’t be rolling off the line until sometime next week.
