PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Michigan State Police Trooper from the Paw Paw post has received honors for his response to a deadly Comstock Township home invasion in 2019. Mark Fletcher has been selected as the 2020 International Association of Chiefs Trooper of the Year.
Fletcher and two officers were shot in December 2019 at a home while trying to rescue several hostage victims. As they tried negotiating with the gunman, he fired several rounds which eventually struck the officers.
Fletcher rendered first aid to one of the injured before realizing he too had been shot. He then put a tourniquet on his leg and continued administering first aid until an ambulance arrived. All of the wounded officers recovered.
