KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo police officials believe they have made significant progress in curbing a problem that has affected the downtown and northern areas of the city for years. But even though the mobile nuisance parties known as the X-Train may be derailed, for now, Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley says the new problem is people in the streets instead of the cars, sometimes covering blocks with partygoers.
Coakley says they have initiated phase three of their enforcement plan, issuing citations and towing cars. He says the hope to get residents in the area to bring social pressure on the rowdy partiers. The Department of Public Safety and Kalamazoo City Commissioners will continue looking for solutions to the massive gatherings.
