LANSING, MI — The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division is urging people to be safe today and throughout this weekend as it will be hot and humid.
Deputy state director Captain Kevin Sweeney in Lansing says the temperatures above 90 will increase the risk of a heat-related injury and notes those can be life-threatening. Dew points will be near 70. Sweeney is recommending folks stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and caffeine, stay in the shade, limit vigorous activity, and to only be outside in the morning or evening if necessary.
The fire risk across mid-Michigan remains high with the area considered to be in severe drought, according to state officials.
