KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo YWCA has received a 100-thousand-dollar grant to provide education to reduce the racial disparity in infant mortality rates in Kalamazoo County.
The effort, called the Maternal or Child Health Universal Access Project, would provide a community health worker to Black families with infants, and pregnant Black women, in order to increase the resources available to them.
According to the YWCA, Black infants between 2016 and 2018 died at 2.8 times the rate of white infants.
