BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Michigan D.N.R. is investigating a field fire which reportedly involved tires that broke out late Saturday afternoon near Burlington and County Line Roads.
The fire was reported at 5:04 p.m.. Some witnesses reported a large amount of black smoke.
Burlington and Union City firefighters were dispatched to the scene. They managed to get the fire under control at 6:10 p.m..
Temperatures were in the mid 80s at the time and a Union City firefighter had to receive medical treatment after apparently being overcome by the heat. Southwest winds gusting up to 20 miles an hour also hindered firefighters efforts to put out the flames.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department provided traffic control as the intersection of Burlington and County Line Road was blocked off.
Crews remained on the scene until 8:17 p.m..
