MyPlate turns 10 this month. It is the nutrition guide published by the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion which replaced the previous MyPyramid guide June 2, 2011.
You’ll see the MyPlate graphic showing a plate divided into five food groups on food packaging as well as in classrooms for nutrition education. Dietary guidelines have been generated by USDA for nearly 130 years. By checking ‘MyPlate.gov’ you can find a wide variety of healthy recipes.
Tom Vilsack, who was Agriculture Secretary when the plate debuted, says creative new ways to reach people need to be developed while working with agriculture and commodity groups to ensure their websites also provide consistent support and information.
