CALVIN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County officials say a driver who was not wearing a seat belt suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Day Lake St. and Paradise Cove in Calvin Township just before 1:00 a.m.. 31-year-old Michael Deweerd of Vandalia had been traveling northbound when his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a large tree.
Deweerd was transported to an Indiana hospital, last listed in serious condition. It’s unclear at this time what caused him to veer off the road.
Assisting in this incident was Cass Central Fire, PrideCare EMS, Penn Township Fire Department, and Med-Flight.
