ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Monday, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office released details regarding two pursuits that occurred over the weekend.
The first of these happened Saturday night near the intersection of Dickinson Road and Burke Road in Mottville Township. Deputies had attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation, but the driver fled, leading to a pursuit that lasted several miles.
The vehicle eventually stopped in the 69000 block of Blue School Road, at which point the 40-year-old male suspect fled on foot. Police were able to apprehend him shortly after.
That suspect, who was already wanted on several outstanding warrants, is currently lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail. In addition to those warrants, he faces the following charges:
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Resisting and Obstructing Police
- Possession of Methamphetamine
No other details about this case were immediately made available.
However, that was only the first of two pursuits the department announced on Monday. The second of these cases occurred during the early Sunday morning hours in Constantine Township.
In this case, deputies had attempted to stop a vehicle for a speeding violation in the 14000 Block of North River Road.
The vehicle led deputies on a several mile pursuit, traveling at extremely high speeds through Constantine Township, Mottville Township and into Cass County.
Prior to the pursuit going into Cass County, deputies were able to successfully deploy stop sticks. During the pursuit, the driver attempted to hit Police Patrol vehicles with his vehicle.
The vehicle eventually came to rest in a field in Cass County, at which point the driver fled on foot. The suspect, a 32-year-old Constantine man, was located after a search, and was said to be barefoot and soaking wet.
He was arrested on the following charges:
- Fleeing and Eluding,
- Resisting and Obstructing Police and
- Assaulting a Police Officer with a Motor Vehicle.
No other information was made available about this case.
