HASTINGS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A man from Hastings accused in an arson case was sentenced to prison on Wednesday, according to a report from WOOD TV.
Previously, the Barry County Prosecutor’s Office issued charges against 21-year-old Keigan Sochor for the massive fire that broke out at The Royal Coach Building at East Mill and Hanover streets on October 7.
There were no injuries at the time of the fire and no one was inside the building. The fire caused power outages and prompted school closings around the area early that morning.
The structure was built in the late 1800’s and was going to be turned into housing.
On Wednesday, WOOD TV reported that Sochor has been sentenced to between three and ten years in prison for perpetrating the crime.
The report says he was charged with arson – preparation to burn property of $20,000 or more, plus a charge relating to breaking and entering.
Other charges were dropped under the plea deal.
