KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: Wednesday afternoon, the Michigan State Police (MSP) released an update into an early-morning crash that involved the death of a cyclist in Kalamazoo.

Around 5:54 a.m. Wednesday, troopers from the MSP Paw Paw post were called to the scene of the crash, which involved one vehicle and a pedestrian on a bike.
Police say a male subject riding a bicycle was struck by a passenger vehicle while both units were traveling east on West KL Avenue. The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured, and is said to be fully cooperating with authorities.
The deceased has since been identified as David Conley, a 61-year-old man from Kalamazoo. The driver of the car is described as 23-year-old woman from Concord, MI.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor and the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
It was also confirmed by MSP that Conley was not wearing a helmet when the crash occured.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
However, MSP is now reminding motorists that they must be mindful of bicyclists who share the roadway with automobiles.
Drivers should remember to give at least 3 feet when passing bicyclists and stay alert and take extra caution at intersections, especially when making turns.

A heavy police presence has been reported on “KL” Ave. near Drake Rd. in Kalamazoo.
Authorities are saying it involved a vehicle and a bicyclist. Traffic was diverted while emergency responders worked to clear the scene. Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police troopers responded to the scene just before 6:00 a.m..
