PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Portage will be hosting its “Lanterns on the Lake” event this Saturday, and there is still time for residents to sign up.
The event takes place on Saturday, May 15 from 8 – 9:30 p.m. at Ramona Park Beach, located at 8600 S. Sprinkle Road.
Participants will “light up the lake” with a lantern that honors loved ones or float words of hope and inspiration, according to event officials.
“My family and I participated in this meaningful event last year,” City Manager Joe La Margo said in a statement. “The music and community atmosphere create a feeling of hope and happiness and healing.”
Officials say residents should bring a picnic dinner to enjoy while decorating a lantern. Musical guest Chris Behre will also be playing throughout the evening.
Registration for the event is required by Friday, May 14. The registration fee is $10 per person and includes one lantern kit.
Attendance will be limited to the first 100 registrants and face coverings are required at all times.
