PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – An 18-year-old suspect from Battle Creek is in police custody after the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says he drove recklessly and tried to get away from law enforcement on Sunday night.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to stop a vehicle on Morgan Rd near North Avenue for driving recklessly and almost striking other vehicles in the intersection at about 9:10 p.m..
The driver attempted to flee from the deputy and one point entered a residential neighborhood.
Due to the driver’s disregard for the public’s safety, the deputy terminated the pursuit.
A short time later the suspect vehicle was located in a yard on North Washington near Ardmoor Drive on its roof. It appeared that the driver lost control, overturned the vehicle and fled the area on foot. A K9 track was started.
Deputies got information that the driver may be in a nearby home.
The suspect was located in that home and taken into custody.
He suffered some minor injuries during the incident and sought treatment at a nearby hospital. Charges are being sought for fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license.
Deputies were assisted by officers from the Battle Creek Police Department, the Bedford Township Fire Department and Calhoun County Dispatch.
