READING TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A sheriff’s deputy in Hillsdale County killed a dog and its owner earlier this week after he was attacked by both of them.
Michigan State Police officials say the deputy had been called to an area in Reading Township Wednesday on reports of an aggressive dog on the loose. When he arrived at a residence, the dog attacked and bit him, so he fired a gunshot which killed the dog. After that, the dog’s owner became upset and tried to come at the deputy with a knife, so he fired a gunshot at the owner, killing him too.
The dog’s owner was identified as Oscar Herrera. The deputy was treated for dog bites and his name hasn’t been released.
Michigan State Police detectives are investigating the incident.
