VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Village of Vicksburg will see the debut of a new farm produce subscription service this year in the form of Green Light Farm.
According to officials, Green Light Farm will be serving the Vicksburg area, as well as the surrounding communities. Officials say the service is run by longtime farmer Adam Cortright, as well as local dentist Chad Thorpe of Centreville Family Dentistry.
Officials say the idea behind Green Light Farm was inspired to “reintegrate the community back into the food that they consume, while providing a portion of the crop to local food banks.”
Six-week and 15-week subscriptions are currently available for pre-purchase at greenlightfarm.org. The currently available pickup points for subscriptions are Green Light Farm in Vicksburg, Mrs. O’s Preschool in Portage and Centreville Family Dentistry in Centreville.
Home delivery is currently unavailable, but the service says subscribers can keep an eye out for the grand opening by following Green Light Farm on social media or its official website.
In addition to providing produce to subscribers, Green Light Farm will be donating 10% of all produce to Local Food Banks such as Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
“One of our main missions here at Green Light Farm is to help those with food insecurity within our communities and one thing we’re going to do is donate 10% of our total production every week to local food banks around the area,” Adam Cortright said in a statement. “Everyone deserves to have fresh healthy produce available to them.”
