Agriculture interests are keeping an eye on the Biden 3 trillion-dollar infrastructure initiative.
The plan designed to fix the nation’s roads, bridges and water systems also holds some interest for those promoting agriculture. Those are many of the same people responsible for the headwinds affecting parts of the virus relief package over tax hikes required to fund the plan. However, things like farm-to-market road repairs needed to transport ag products to upgraded river transport infrastructure is giving them cause for a closer look.
In the Midwest, efforts to finally modernize locks on the Upper Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri rivers after decades of delay could benefit from the proposal. Still, those lock projects await Army Corps approval.
