KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo-area group, formed to hold responsible the parties involved in sediment released into the Kalamazoo River in 2019, is broadening its efforts.
It comes after a different large mess was recently discovered in the river near a homeless encampment. Tarps, plastic, and other types of garbage and discarded items were littered along dozens of feet of the river near downtown Kalamazoo.
In a Facebook post, Kalamazoo River Alliance called out everyone in Kalamazoo, saying they should be ashamed about the current condition of the river and the decades of neglect.
Residents of Kalamazoo –
Every last one of us should be ashamed right now. This isn’t just a homeless problem.

In turn, they announced a Kalamazoo River clean-up event which they plan to make an annual event. The first one takes place at Verburg Park on Saturday, June 5th. They ask residents to bring boats, kayaks, and other people to help clean the Kalamazoo River.
