BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are reporting new COVID-19 outbreaks in more than 60 Michigan schools, including two in the Battle Creek area. On Monday, data released by state health officials showed that two food service staff members and four students at Harper Creek High School had tested positive. Three students at Tekonsha High School also had positive tests.
Last Friday during a press conference, Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said that as COVID-19 case rates have increased 77% since mid-February, they have also found that the 10 to 19-year-old age group has seen the biggest increase among all age groups. Governor Whitmer says many of the new cases have been attributed to high school athletics and new measures are now in place to try to limit exposure to the virus related to those activities.
