PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Wednesday as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week which runs now through Sunday. The Portage Department of Public Safety’s Fire Division, in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Office of Emergency Management, will participate in the drill at 1:00 p.m..
To prepare for severe weather and tornados, consider these questions and have a plan:

- Do you have a plan?
- Do you have a way to get alerts?
- How will you communicate?

In 2020, a statewide tornado drill was scheduled but ultimately was canceled by the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids in an effort to limit overall anxiety during the statewide COVID-19 stay-at-home order that was in effect at the time.
