BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Relatives of a man who was found dead following a stabbing incident in the 300 block of Main Street early Wednesday morning say he was not killed in self defense
Battle Creek Police are investigating the death of 43-year-old Christopher Dykstra. Police report they found Dykstra lying in a driveway at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Police say he appeared to have a single stab wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. A knife was found nearby.
An 18-year-old male who was believed to be involved was near the scene. He was interviewed by police and later released.
Police said their preliminary investigation showed the 18-year-old may have acted in self-defense. But the stabbing victim’s relatives told the Battle Creek Enquirer that was not the case and that there was a fight between Dykstra and the unidentified 18-year-old.
A police report will be turned into the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office who will determine if charges should be filed.
