HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 45-year-old Kentwood man was killed in a single-vehicle crash just before 6:45 last night, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Duwayne Robinson.
State Police troopers investigating the crash indicated the man appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed in a small sport utility vehicle and tried using the US 131 exit ramp at 129th Avenue in Allegan County’s Wayland Township.
The driver lost control of the SUV on a curve near the end of the ramp, rolling several times and landing in a ditch, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family, according to Robinson.
No one else was in the S-U-V, and it’s unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to police.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies, Gun Lake Tribal Police, Wayland firefighters and E-M-Ts as well as Michigan Department of Transportation officials assisted at the crash scene.
