EAST LANSING, MI — On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day and its expected student celebrations, officials with Michigan State University confirmed someone on campus has the B.1.1.7 variant of COVID-19.
The university said the discovery is “not unexpected” and underscores the importance of continuing health and safety practices to slow or stop spread, according to MSU President Samuel Stanley.
“I believe there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel, but we must remain vigilant. It is important to remember that scaling up vaccination operations will take time. I encourage you to talk with your health care provider and find credible resources to broaden your knowledge so you can be prepared to receive a vaccine when it is your turn,” Stanley said in a press release.
The City of East Lansing has issued additional safety rules for downtown businesses and is asking MSU students to limit social gatherings today and to wear masks as they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
