KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A bunch of books will be delivered to Bronson Children’s Hospital Wednesday afternoon, as a recent fundraising campaign in Kalamazoo, combined with an effort to keep people safe in their vehicles, has culminated.
Pride Care EMT Andrea Grube and Paramedic Jess Knapp started the fundraiser earlier this year and Grube is excited to announce how much money they were able to bring in to purchase the books.
“We managed to raise $12,000. That’s with the Pride Care match and with our Usborne Books and More match. So it comes out to 1,200 books. We’re very excited that we were able to do this and we hope that Bronson Children’s Hospital can really benefit from all that we were able to raise.”
She says they will continue to push their #buckledownonthebuckleup hashtag campaign to encourage seat-belt use and that it might evolve into a non-profit organization. Meanwhile, she encourages people to keep buckling up and spreading the word.
“Don’t forget to keep posting those seat belt videos and use that hashtag on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. And keep looking out for us!”
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will start helping the campaign with the production of videos and some educational materials soon. And a 5K run for seatbelt safety is also in the planning stages.
