INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan advanced in the Big Ten Tournament with a 79-66 win against Maryland in a game that saw head coach Juwan Howard ejected after getting into a shouting match with Terrapin head coach Larry Turgeon.
Mike Smith had a game-high 18 points, while Eli Brooks and Franz Wagner added 16 apiece.
The 4th-ranked and top-seeded Wolverines will face Ohio State in one of the semifinals this afternoon after the 9th-ranked Buckeyes eliminated Purdue in overtime 87-78.
The other semifinal will feature Illinois against Iowa; the Illini overpowered Rutgers 90-68 while Iowa got past Wisconsin 62-57.
The tournament championship is scheduled for tomorrow.
