KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller spoke with WKZO to warn residents about scams related to COVID-19 vaccines.
This warning is being issued as more residents in Kalamazoo County can qualify to receive a vaccine as of this week, namely essential workers.
“We have to keep talking about these things and people have to listen because we have residents fall for these scams all the time,” Fuller said. “Right now, we’re talking about vaccine scams.”
Fuller says that high demand and increased availability have given rise to scams relating to vaccine doses.
“Of course, everyone wants a vaccine right now, and they’re coming out in higher and higher numbers every day, so that progress is really good news,” Fuller said. “But what’s bad news is, people are taking advantage of the vaccine. They’re calling and trying to get you to register through them, and asking you for a payment, your Medicare number or social security number. All this is disguised as part of signing you up for the vaccine, when they’re really just after your information or money.”
Fuller says no legitimate medical facility will call you asking for money or personal information.
“Please be alerted to these things, share this information, and help make sure our friends and relatives are not taken victim of these scammers,” Fuller said.
