PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage Public Schools is currently having the largest outbreak of COVID-19 at schools and colleges in Michigan.
According to data released by the state on Monday, 24 students and staff at Portage Central High School and 20 students at Portage Central Elementary have all contracted the virus. Statewide, a total of 226 students and staff at 47 K-12 school districts and one college have been infected in new school-related outbreaks, according to data collected last week by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
A COVID-19 outbreak is defined as two or more cases with a link by place and time for exposures outside of a household. The data was collected last Thursday.
This did not have to happen. The last time there were positive results in the school they did not quarantine for 2 weeks. I was appalled when i saw buses running again a few days later after it was reported. It is decisions like this that make it tough to get a handle on the virus. Time to use some common sense and listen to the CDC.
