BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kellogg Community College baseball team is back in action almost a full year after a 2020 season cut short by COVID-19.
The Bruins opened the Spring 2021 season February 28, splitting a doubleheader with Ivy Tech Community College on the road in Stevensville. It was the team’s first official game back since mid-March last year, when the season was canceled less than a dozen games into a season with nearly 60 scheduled.
It was a disappointing development after a wildly successful 2019 season finish as Michigan Community College Athletic Association state and conference champions and National Junior College Athletic Association regional champions. The team also finished seventh in the nation at the NJCAA Division II World Series that year, the seventh World Series appearance for the College since 1999.
The 2020 season didn’t count against the players’ limited eligibility, and a handful of third-year students who missed their chance to be recruited last spring are returning for another shot.
This year’s schedule includes nearly 30 regular season game dates scheduled into May, including a dozen home dates at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. All home games are free and open to the public.
