Though China may fall short of its trade commitment agreed to a year ago under Phase I, they have made significant purchases.
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack points to a spike in recent purchases noting that’s a driving factor in improved commodity prices this year compared to last. While that’s a good development, the secretary points out the complex nature of the U-S China relationship could impact those purchases at any time.
Elsewhere, Vilsack says the Food Box program is under review making sure a majority of program resources are not going into its administration but rather in getting nutritious food to those in need. The Food Box program will continue into April while that’s happening.
