ANN ARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The University of Michigan and Northwestern football will now compete for the George Jewett Trophy.
Jewett was the first African American to play in the Big Ten Conference and was a member of both the Wolverines and the Wildcats teams. He played for Michigan in 1890 and 1892, then left for Northwestern in 1893 to finish his medical degree.
The George Jewett Trophy will be presented for the first time to the winner of the Michigan and Northwestern match up October 23, 2021.
