LANSING, MI — The former USA Gymnastics coach who led the women to an Olympic gold medal in 2012 is to be charged with crimes today by Attorney General Dana Nessel. WLNS-TV reports John Geddert will face multiple felonies, but his attorney says they have not heard what they will be.
The state AG office is expected to hold a press conference this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. to announce the felony charges, according to various media reports. WILX-TV in Lansing says the charges will exceed 20 counts and include human trafficking, criminal sexual conduct and racketeering.
Geddert, the former owner of Twistars Gymnastics in Dimondale, has been under investigation for years due to his association with former Michigan State University and Olympic sports doctor Larry Nassar, who sexually abused several members of the 2012 Fierce Five team.
Former gymnasts at Twistars, which Geddert owned until 2018, say he required them to go to Nassar to be treated.
