BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A fire in four large laundry bins at Gallagher Uniform at 151 McQuiston Drive caused about $30,000 worth of damage late Wednesday night but the business was operating normally on Thursday.
The Battle Creek Fire Department and the Veterans Affairs Fire Department were dispatched to a water flow alarm at 10:47 p.m..
Smoke was showing from the east side of the structure when the first crew arrived.
The Battle Creek Fire Department reported the response was then upgraded to a full structure fire but the building’s fire suppression system contained the fire to the laundry bins near the center of the structure.
Crews were then able to put out the fire and ventilate the building which was not occupied at the time.
A company spokesperson said there was “minimal damage” and that the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion from a foreign object that was hidden in a freshly washed and cooled load of mops.
It took 15 minutes to get the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
