SAND LAKE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A dog in Michigan that was missing for 43 days, including during some of the coldest temperatures of the winter season, was discovered inside a grain silo over the weekend.
Despite hunger, dehydration and frigid temperatures, a springer spaniel named Milo survived after apparently falling 10 feet and being trapped inside the silo at a farm in Kent County, twenty miles away from where his owners lived. Animal Control officers received a call Sunday after residents in Sand Lake near the farm had heard a dog barking for a few days. MLive reports that the person who called them had investigated the area and found the dog.
The officers and citizens worked together to remove the dog from the silo by using a long rope. Once he was out, the animal control officers started looking for his owners and eventually found a posting for a similar dog that had been missing since January 8th.
The dog had lost several pounds during the ordeal but was reunited with his owners and is expected to be ok.
