KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new fundraising campaign in Kalamazoo is looking to raise awareness of seat belt safety, while also raising funds for books at Bronson’s Children’s Hospital.
EMT Andrea Grube and Paramedic Jess Knapp started the fundraiser after responding to a crash where a child was ejected from a car. That child was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
“This particular call affected both of us. We’re both moms and it’s definitely hard to see kids hurt, especially when it could be prevented.” – EMT Andrea Grube
Using the hashtag #buckledownonthebuckleup, first responders will now post photos of themselves buckling up to create awareness of seat belts. They also want to help make car seats available to families who need them.
“We can start raising funds and get car seats put at the fire station so that if somebody is in need and doesnt’t have a car seat, they can at least go there and get one.”
Additionally, the money raised from this donation campaign will be used as book drive for Bronson Children’s Hospital.
