LAKELAND, FL (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers will begin Spring Training next week. Major League Baseball announced the start dates for all clubs yesterday.
Detroit’s pitchers and catchers will start drills in Lakeland, Florida next Wednesday, while the first full team workout is set for February 22.
The Tigers open exhibition play against Southeastern University February 26 and begin their Grapefruit League schedule the next day against the New York Yankees.
The Tigers continue to add to the roster ahead of Spring Training. According to multiple sources, Detroit has signed veteran utility player Greg Garcia to a Minor League contract.
Garcia played second and third base and also appeared in left field for the San Diego Padres last season. The deal includes an invite to Spring Training.
