LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An Ann Arbor businessman is set to lead the Michigan Republican Party for a third time despite last-minute efforts to derail his candidacy. Ron Weiser and co-chair Meshawn Maddock garnered 66% of the vote during an on-line convention Saturday.
Weiser replaces Laura Cox who at first didn’t run for reelection but changed her mind at the last minute.
Cox accused Weiser of misconduct stating that he had paid a Macomb County activist $200,000 to stay out of the secretary of state race in 2018 when he last led the party.
