There’s a big shift in attitudes regarding COVID vaccinations showing up in the latest Ag Economy Barometer survey.
The January numbers indicate nearly 58 percent of rural residents are planning to get vaccinated as soon as possible. In October, just 24 percent of farmers said the same thing. Though the number is down, 28 percent still say they won’t get the COVID vaccine.
This, while a new report from USDA’s Economic Research Service says rural residents are becoming more vulnerable to serious infection or death from the disease. This is due partly to the age of those living in the country, underlying medical conditions and longer distance to an intensive care hospital.
The latest survey shows rural COVID deaths were 48 percent higher than the corresponding urban rate.
