LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A 64-year-old Tennessee man was sentenced in Kalamazoo County to serve up to 35 years in prison for a 2013 sexual assault case involving a minor.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said the case against Roosevelt Johnson was not discovered until 2016 after the Kalamazoo County Sexual Assault Kit Initiative team tested a victim’s DNA kit. Nessel said Thursday that the kit was previously untested because it was believed the only evidence was the victim engaging in consensual sex with another minor. Once the kit was tested it revealed two DNA profiles, the other minor and a match for Johnson.
Johnson, who is formerly from Kalamazoo, is said to have a history of domestic violence.
