CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Seven diamond rings stolen out of the Detroit area were recovered after a traffic stop in Calhoun County Tuesday.
Around 1 p.m., a Michigan State Police (MSP) Trooper conducted a routine traffic stop on I-94 in Emmett Township. According to a report from WOOD TV, the driver had been following too closely, prompting the stop.
The driver was found to be driving on a suspended license, in addition to having improper insurance and registration.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up seven diamond rings, which the driver admitted had been stolen out of the Detroit area. He said he received them from a friend.
Police say the rings have an estimated street value of around $50,000.
The suspect, identified as a 31-year-old man from Detroit, was arrested on charges of receiving and concealing stolen property.
Troopers are now working to figure out which stores the rings were stolen from.
