BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The oldest living person in Michigan celebrated her birthday on Tuesday.
Ellen Goodwill of Battle Creek has turned 114 years old. The Battle Creek Enquirer says the state of Michigan recognized her with a plaque, sent to her residence at an assisted living center in Battle Creek. In May of 2020, Ellen became the oldest known resident in the state following the passing of Irene Dutton of Kalamazoo, who was 113 at the time of her death.
Ellen was born in Kentucky on February 2nd, 1907 before moving to Michigan with her husband after World War II. Teddy Roosevelt was President of the United States when she was born.
Along with being the oldest known living person in Michigan, she is also believed to be the third oldest living person in the United States, according to Wikipedia.
